(1) speaking of ghosts: are you haunting Durham or will you be here corporally this semester?
(2) has the word “zombie” made it into Guarani yet?

Hi Professor Becker,
(1)(a) – my presence in Durham will be purely ethereal this semester, the corporal self residing in Madrid.
(1)(b) – i will be back in durham between august 18 and 24. i’ll email you when i’m back in town and maybe i can run by to catch up and show you the kinds of data i’ve been working with.
(2) much of what we know culturally about guarani is actually a nationalist construct, vestige of the stroessner dictatorship. so i’d bet there is a word for “zombie,” and i’d bet it sounds a lot like the word for “opposition.”
