unsustainable

I just got back from Buenos Aires. Dre was a tremendous hostess and we had a fabulous time. I cannot even begin to describe the extent to which that city seems to extend infinitively in all directions. The scale is unimaginable. I don’t know how it compares to New York or Los Angeles in terms of population, but in terms of sheer geography, it is unfathomably expansive. You feel as if you could walk through the city for your entire life and never double back on yourself.

We had an amazing time. Approximate schedule: wake up around noon, enjoy leisurely brunch, be tourists until about 7pm, nap until about 10pm, then go out for dinner and to enjoy the spectacle that is the Buenos Aires nightlife.

It was terrifically exciting, a little opulent, and completely unsustainable for longer than a week. I don’t know how they do it.

Some highlights:::::

we spent a substantial amount of time flipping through guide books…

Dre’s key…apparently all apartment keys in BA are this medieval looking

you would think this is the entrance to a night club, huh? you’d be wrong. it’s the entrance to a rich family’s tomb.

Evita’s grave

beautiful park in the city

accidentally artistic shot of Dre admiring a 250-year-old tree in the middle of the city

The world’s only Museum of Foreign Debt. Interesting, not terribly professionally put together, but admission is free…so if you’re in Buenos Aires and speak good Spanish I’d definitely peak in.

There was a big map of global financial influence…this is the character that is used to denote American influence. hmmm…

the new port

near La Boca

I thought this was actually a ham museum, Andrea thought it was a restaurant. We decided eventually that it was probably some sort of historico-culinary experience. A history lesson a la chef boyardee, if you will.

windswept

che and evita share a balcony and rally the tourists

at the zoo

still at the zoo…it’s a big zoo

elephants: “oh, he’s my favorite!”

back to work tomorrow. but i’ll remember buenos aires for a long time. anybody want to go back some day?
